About Us
Who We Are
As a full service construction company, we deliver full design services, project cost estimation, construction management, subcontractor coordination, and guidance for client material selections. We specialize in residential remodels: additions, baths, kitchens, decks, master suites, and new home construction, and accessory dwelling units (ADUs).
Over the past 40+ years, we have helped thousands of homeowners turn their home renovation dreams into reality. We specialize in working in client-occupied houses, and have developed systems to keep the mess and frustration to a minimum. We bring a high level of care and attention to each home project. We have long established partnerships with subcontractors who have been selected for the quality of their work, their timeliness, and their ability to work well in an occupied home. We love helping our clients solve problems and transform their homes into comfortable and beautiful spaces.
Our company employs 20 people full time, many of whom have been with the company for over a decade. All demolition, framing, carpentry, and supervision are done by our employees. Eight of our employees are our skilled job superintendents, who keep the project organized from start to finish, keep the client apprised of the schedule and any changes, supervise and schedule all subcontractors, and complete the work.
What We Do
Zarzycki Construction is a family owned and operated residential design/build construction company that has served the greater Eugene area for over 40 years.
History
David Zarzycki came to Eugene in 1971 fresh out of college and bought a small house in the Whiteaker Neighborhood and set out to get certified as a math and science teacher. He sold the house when he was accepted into a teacher exchange program in north Queensland Australia. Upon his return he found that he could no longer afford to buy a house in Eugene. Undeterred, he discovered that by moving a house about to be demolished and renovating it allowed him to afford to buy a home. He did this several times. In doing so, he learned some basic proficiencies in residential house construction. In 1981 with his first child on the way, he became a certified general contractor installing solar water systems. During the recession of ‘79-’82 he added weatherization installations to Eugene Water and Electric Board’s massive energy saving campaign and started taking on small remodeling jobs.
In the mid 80’s a local architect at the University of Oregon, Don Genasci, approached David with a large renovation project and even though David hadn’t done anything of that scale before, he jumped at the opportunity. David and Don worked together on several projects, including a beautiful addition that was featured in the Spring 1989 Remodeling Ideas issue of Better Homes and Gardens.
Demand for construction bounced back post-recession and the Zarzycki crew grew to meet the increasing demand for remodels. David’s commitment to quality pleased his clients, many of whom returned to Zarzycki again and again to support additional projects. David continued to grow the business and new projects came in through word of mouth and community engagement.
Forty years and thousands of projects later, David is transitioning leadership of the company to his daughter Sara Selko, who shares his passion for “altering reality” and his commitment to quality.
